Our woke culture wants us to wake up to many things they deem imperative to our survival as a nation and a human race. Described by Merriam-Webster as “chiefly US slang”, the dictionary defines “woke” as: “Aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice).” The problem with this definition and the outcome of it is that every issue has evolved into either a racial or social justice issue. To have an opinion or belief other than the accepted, official woke belief or opinion now has one fitting the category of a racially bigoted, socially insensitive, or hater.
Case in point: Standing in the pulpit on Sunday, MacArthur said, “There is no such thing as transgender. You are either XX or XY, that’s it. God made man male and female. That is determined genetically, that is physiology, that is science, that is reality.” YouTube removed the sermon from his account because they said it violated their “Hate Speech” policy. Seems to me MacArthur was just being actively attentive to important facts and issues.
So, it’s no longer just being woke. Now it’s which side of the bed you get up on. The apostle Paul had great insight some 2000 years ago into what we are facing today:
See that no one deceives you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Do not participate in the useless deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, “Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.” So then, be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your hearts to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our God and Father; and subject yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ. (Eph 5:6-21 NASB)
